The Auxiliary to the National Medical Association, Inc (ANMA) has been providing medical and nursing scholarships for over 60 years to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in the field of science and health related professions.
Alma Wells Givens Scholarship
This scholarship fund was named in memory of one of the founders and the first President of the ANMA. It was established in 1942 and provides medical scholarships to the four historically African American medical institutions: Meharry Medical College, Howard University School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. It is funded by fundraising events, donations, foundations and corporations, and the membership.

Lela Duffel Morris National Scholarship
The ANMA has recently launched a new scholarship program, the Lela Duffel Morris National Scholarship, established and partially funded by the Morris family. Mrs. Morris was a Board Member who provided exemplary service to the ANMA. In addition, she was a registered nurse and public health professional. The scholarship supports a student in the nursing and public health fields of study annually. The first scholarship was awarded at the 2012 Annual Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana.

This scholarship was established in 2008 by Reed Tuckson, MD, in memory of his former teacher, Jesse B. Barber, Jr., MD a noted African American neurosurgeon; National Medical Association Past President, pioneer, and professor of social medicine. It is funded annually by the United Health Foundation (UHF).The scholarship supports students enrolled in Meharry Medical College, Howard University School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine and Charles R. Drew School of Science and Medicine, who have an interest in neurosurgery or neurology.
