2023 Convention

Message from the President

Greetings Fellow Auxiliary Members:

Thank you for your support and confidence during my reign as the 84th President of the ANMA, of which I have been a member since 1983. As the 84th President of the Auxiliary to the National Medical Association, Inc., I welcome you to the 2023 Annual Convention & Scientific Assembly, our largest, most diverse gathering of the year.

My theme for 2023 is “MITIGATING HEALTHCARE DISPARITIES IN A POST PANDEMIC WORLD: LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.” In 2020, COVID-19 was a deadly virus that nearly shut down the world, posing a major global health threat, ranking 3rd in deaths, after ischemic heart disease and stroke. While there are still a few variants of the disease, we now have a vaccine that significantly protects many of us. It is important that we encourage and promote this vaccine as we continue to struggle with healthcare inequities. Most of the lives loss during the pandemic were people of color; largely due to disparities in healthcare that continue to threaten people of color as racism runs rampant in our society.

I chose the theme, “Mitigating Healthcare Disparities in a Post Pandemic World: Let’s Talk about it,” for this year’s convention because it transcends professional and cultural identities. Our exciting programming and lively social hours are designed to expand ANMA / NMA dialogue on healthcare inequities and our role in addressing these critical issues.

I believe deeply in the power of community and identity to help bolster us person- ally and professionally. As ANMA members, we spend much of our time pouring out, helping others, fighting for a more just world, and tackling society’s most pressing issues related to healthcare disparities. During this convention is our chance to “Talk about it,” to get the nourishment our soul needs to do this important work, and to address mitigating healthcare disparities in a post-pandemic world. I encourage all Auxiliary members to continue supporting our spouses and communities addressing healthcare disparities. The ANMA 2023 convention offers you an immersive engaging experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated, connected, and newly motivated to continue doing your crucial work within our communities!

I congratulate the ANMA for the work you have done to increase healthcare for everyone. I thank you for your sacrifice, hard work, and commitment to mitigating healthcare disparities in our society and forging the ANMA legacy. I sincerely thank all Auxilians that have contributed to the success of this convention.

We must honor our legacy and continue to build upon the Pillars of our Emeritus Life Members, Alice T. Davis, Mae S. Walton, and Laura H. Thompkins.

Serving with Grace,
Mrs. Marion E. Grace 84th President
